Leaving town for 107 Avenue

Great Northern Casino keeps its doors at 10910 107 Avenue, Grande Prairie, Alberta T8V 7R2. Measured from the middle of each town straight to that door, Sexsmith sits 19.3 km away, Wembley 20.4 km and Beaverlodge 38.6 km. To the north and north-east, Spirit River is 66.7 km, Fairview 102.7 km and Peace River 151.7 km. East and south, Valleyview comes in at 98.7 km and Grande Cache at 144.6 km. Across the line in British Columbia, Dawson Creek sits 110.1 km away.

These lines are always shorter than the real roads, which is why the guide offers no driving times. Instead, each town in the strip has a link that opens the route. Settle the trip back before you leave town, too: the casino's pages point to neither a shuttle nor a taxi stand, nor to the closest bus stop.

Entertainment space inside the building covers 30,000 square feet. The floor carries more than 400 slot machines, with 40 VLTs set apart in their own room. Six table games are on the list: Roulette, Three Card Poker, Chase The Flush, Ultimate Texas Hold'em, Blackjack and Free Bet Blackjack. The casino posts no table minimums.

The poker room has 3 tables. Cash tables deal Pot Limit Omaha, No Limit Hold'em and Dealer's Choice, which rotates among Hold'em, Pineapple, Crazy Pineapple and Omaha. Start times shift from one day to the next, and the room keeps no posted opening hours of its own. A seat can be held from one day before the game, during poker room hours. The Houseman takes those requests in the room, or by phone at 780-539-4454, extension 121.

Staying over

Sleeping next door

The casino has no hotel rooms. Service Plus Inns & Suites, a separate hotel, stands right next door at 10810 107 Avenue, and its phone is (780) 538-3900. For anyone who would rather not head back to Spirit River or Dawson Creek at closing, that door is the alternative.

Service Plus has an indoor pool with a waterpark, a 210-foot waterslide and a hot tub. A hot breakfast comes with the room, and some rooms take pets. The casino also names Encore Suites as a place to stay, reachable at 587-259-0425.

Off-track betting there shows live races from tracks across North America and Alberta, with bets placed at self-serve kiosks. More than 2,000 parking spaces on the grounds come at no charge.

Online in Alberta

Online casinos under Alberta rules

Online gaming in Alberta has run as a regulated market from July 13, 2026 onward. AGLC is the regulator, while the Alberta iGaming Corporation, or AiGC, runs the market itself. An operator joins only by holding AGLC registration and signing an operating agreement with AiGC. 22 registered sites had approval when the market opened. Play Alberta, found at playalberta.ca, belongs to the province itself; AGLC operates it, and the Government of Alberta receives whatever it takes in.

Registered iGaming sites are listed in an AiGC directory at abigaming.ca. Any operator not found there is not regulated in Alberta, while approved operators display the AiGC logo. Registered operators can admit only players physically located inside Alberta, so a reader at home in Dawson Creek or Fort St. John is outside that reach.

Questions from the road

01How far is Beaverlodge from the casino door?

Beaverlodge sits 38.6 km from the door at 10910 107 Avenue, measured straight from the middle of town. Real roads run longer, and the town's link in the strip opens the route.

02Until what time do the slots run on a Friday night?

They run until 4 a.m., which falls in the small hours of Saturday. The same 4 a.m. close follows a Saturday, while other nights end at 3 a.m.

03Can you still order breakfast at 2 p.m. on a Saturday?

Yes, on Saturday and Sunday the breakfast menu runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. On weekdays it ends at noon.

04Can you sleep in the casino building itself?

No, the casino has no hotel rooms. Service Plus Inns & Suites, a separate hotel, stands right next door at 10810 107 Avenue; its phone is (780) 538-3900.

05Does a casino shuttle run in from the towns?

No shuttle appears on the casino's pages, and neither does a taxi stand or a nearest bus stop. Coming in from Sexsmith or Peace River means arranging your own way there and back.
